Apologies for the lack of posts the past week but JMI was off vacationing south in the Carolinas. Home to a sea of neon lights by night tempting you with buffets offering 114 items, strip clubs and beach shops – Myrtle Beach is a tourism loving city that boasts every imaginable chain restaurant out there. Including, some places you’ve never heard of – What’s a Zaxby’s?
Coming from New York City where chains only exist in Times Square, a mom & pop – hole in the wall establishment in the SC area was hard to come by but alas, Little Pigs Bar-B-Q is an easily overlooked stop on a busy road somewhere between a gas station and Planet Hollywood. With no real rhyme or reason to the inside decor, the aroma inside LP heightens your sense as you walk through the door and is a great alternative for those who don’t want fried.
The BBQ is flavorful, juicy and available in a variety of ways; the standard sandwich between a hamburger bun that’s piled high (ask for the slaw topping), a plate that includes two sides (pictured left) or chopped. A sauce goer? Have no fear because the Carolinas excel in four different, all of what are available; vinegar, mustard, mild or hot.
The Final Bite
If you’re looking for alternatives in the land of chain resto’s, bring $10 and an appetite, because Little Pigs meets the standard southern protocol, excessive.
